In a little-known polyphonic monument of American choral music, Milton Babbitt – celebrated pioneer of electronic and serial composition – explores a wide palette of traditional choral writing in original ways. His wartime Mass setting, is heard among expressive pre-Easter polyphony from Renaissance Spain and 20th-century Brazil.
