Concert Support:

Now in its sixth year, the INLAND concert series has a special place in the contemporary music calendar with its presentations of the newest in composition, performance and music technology. INLAND concerts regularly draw on Australian musicians active in other countries as well as players and creators from the local environment, reflecting the mobility and diversity of contemporary experience in music.

Devised in coordination with Inland's Rohan Drape, this joint concert brings together Berlin-based Australian performers Rebecca Lane and Jon Heilbron with familiar Astra musicians Kim Bastin, Joy Lee, Justin Kenealy, and soloists and choristers of the Astra Choir.

The program radiates from Agon, the image of a public gathering or contest as expressed in Stravinsky's great late ballet for two pianos. From there, other works reach back to late-mediaeval Italy – Landini and contemporaries from the 'new art' of the trecento – and forwards to current compositions, some created for the occasion. First performances of Australian composers include Anthony Pateras and James Rushford, joining new creations from Italy by Riccardo Vaglini (Venice) and Giovanna Dongu (Sardinia).
